Hi all,
I have a few quesions about wiring my stero. I have already blown a whole load of fuses and seem to be a bit stuck on where im going wrong. First thing id like to check is anyone have a stero which requires a constant feed? im thinking this may be the reason mine is blowing fuses.
If anyone has come across this or there is a post already?
Thanks in advance
Need some help wiring my stero please.

Which side of your battery is earthed and do you have a wiring diagram for the stereo?

The earth strap is coming off the negative and yes i do have a diagram. Its my friends old setup he no longer wants as he no longer has a car. He has fitted it it at least 2 cars before but even this one stumped him when i got him to have a look at it.

most have the following wires
constant 12v power (for the memory)
ignition controlled 12volts,(so as not to flatten battery ,but some just have constant
)
earth wire
ariel socket
ariel (power lead sometimes)
out wires for the number of speakers it will power, usually marked + and -,by a trace on the wire
(some older ones may have a common speaker wire ) + some have phone mute wire ......................
I coud go on and on ..........your best bet is to search for a better wiring diagram, also how old is it ? think about time and effort as new ones are pretty cheap ,and newer ones have probably got the diagrames and user manuals on line
failing this it may have an internal short or shorting wires underneath insulating tape
good luck

Yeah the stero has a really good diagram and so it should be simple. I even helped my mate put it in his old car and it was easy. The same process dosent seem to be the case on my car tho. The minute we connect the constant feed to the back of the stero the fuse pops. We did try without the constant and just running it from the ignition which didnt do anything. It must have a constant like you say because it has so many programs and settings to remember. Going to get someone else to have a go at it later, maybe a fresh set of eyes can spot something we are missing.
Once we get power to the head unit it should be plain sailing as the 2 speakers are fitted into the front parcel shelf quite nicely.

SterEo I think - and obviously something wrong with it if it's blowing fuses. Take care you don't burn out the wiring harness....
