Where are the numbers...?
Anyone on here know the whereabouts of the rear axle number on a 948cc axle casing?
Have looked in the area pointed out by BMC, but cannot see anything at this location.

Dear Holmes, it's stamped on the front of the l/h axle tube near the U bolt.--Elementary!

The l/h side is also known as the n/s Basil, the numbers might be covered by muck and/or rust.

Re: Where are the numbers...?
The BMC wksp manual has an illustration of where it is located and states that 'the axle number is stamped on the front of the axle tube adjacent to the spring seat' and is exactly as Les says on the front of the axle just inboard of the inner rear axle 'U' bolt on the N/S or left side looking forward from the rear of the car.

Re: Where are the numbers...?
Has the rain stopped yet? If so did you find anything? The only numbers I could find are the diff ratios on the diff head. 9/42 = 4.5 ratio and 9/39 which equals 4.2 ratio. If this is what you are looking for it is on the top of the aluminium front part of the diff on the drivers side. You will probably need something to clean the muck off and if the diff is on the car you will need a mirror.
