Classical gas can

Just been given one of those old, square petrol cans with a brass cap, from the days when they called it 'Petroleum Spirit', which I'd like to use.

It's pretty clean inside but I'll sloosh it out with some petrol (unless anyone's got a better idea?)

However, I've heard scare stories about unleaded melting solder. Has anyone else had any problems using a can like this?

(I use super unleaded, which contains less of the nasty additives than regular.)

Thanks all.

The solder will not melt! I have owned my 1948 Indian motorcycle for twenty years. The gas tanks are soldered and I have never had a problem.

They must've started adding some form of acid to the petrol as well now.

I regularly use a 1953 ex-WD jerry can, even the rubber seal is still in good nick.
