948cc with big bore?

Hi

I have a standard 1956 car with a standard 948cc engine.

Would it be possible to fit a large bore exhaust system to it without changing exhaust manifold? I could weld the bigger bore section to the existing down pipe? If its not possible and I change the exhaust manifold would I have performance issues with the engine as its not modified in any way?

I love the sound of my car but wish it was a little louder :D

If I replaced the exhaust with a bigger diameter pipe and kept the centre box where it was would it still give me the Morris minor fart..?

I have read on this forum that if you buy a big bore exhaust from the usual places, they come with a back box and this gets rid of the Morris minor fart.....??

Cheers

If you want to keep the sound, but have it louder. Buy a new 'standard' stainless system. Bolts straight onto the standard manifold, and will certainly be louder than the sooted-up system on at the moment. A new one will still quieten down with time as it gets more and more sooty inside.

Replace the silencer with a cherry bomb?

No way of telling if it will still make the traditional noise though.

Yeah ill let you know how i get on and post a vid or something it you like.
I notice from the top of your post you say your car is totally standard. Same as mine then just a different year. What are you breaks like because my are pretty bad and need to use the gears more than id like to slow down lol.
I might look at changing them out pretty soon i dont know yet.

Mine are the 7 inch drums, and if I'm honest they stop the car very well
I have only suffered from brake fade a few times, but that was when I just spotted the turn I needed and slammed them on

Are you putting the bomb on the back like the video? Or are you replacing the center box?

On my last Moggy I removed the box completely and it sounded awful. It wasn't so much loud it was a horrible tone on acceleration. So I cut my center box in two, removed the baffles and welded it back together, that sounded nice but not much louder.

The box being so close to the manifold is what gives it the morrris fart so ill prob keep that on and just pit it on the back like tjat video see what happens. Not a lot of money so no biggy if i don't like it. No real videos on YouTube so ill put a dent one on. I have a channel but never uploaded to it so this could be the start

Adding a stupidly expensive extra silencer to your car is going to make it quieter - and probably lose you some power too.......not quite what you are after, I suspect? What do I suggest - you ask? I suggest you put the engine in to good order (sorting out the oil pressure as top priority) , increase the power by fitting a camshaft from a 1098 engine, and a 940 cylinder head from a 1275 - with larger carb and decent inlet manifold..... With the standard exhaust - that will be 'louder' if that's what you want..and it will GO much better too. However - it becomes apparent from your post , that your first priority must be the 'breaks' (sic) - so you can actually stop.....Before you kill yourself, and possibly others....:o

Here it is;

Hard to make out the exhaust over the clattering of the engine but it does seem to have added a certain something.
