What are polybushes made of?

Mine must be made from reconstituted mice going by all the squeaking! When I changed to them I carefully greased everything on assembly with copper grease but they sometimes squeak terribly - it's embarrassing driving through town and annoying everywhere else! I've squirted silicone on them and they shut up for a while but then squeak again. It seems to change with the weather so I think it must be a lubrication issue but I'm not convinced that they're not wearing the holes a bit oval - I'll get Monty up on the lift at the weekend and have a proper look...
Are there some rubber bushes with steel tubes in the middle that fit and might be a better long term solution or any other ideas? Thanks everyone!

Polyurethane - you are supposed to grease them with 'white grease' on assembly. Note - copper slip is NOT a grease - it is simply an anti-seize potion to allow nuts/bolts to come apart easily in future...... You can try a can of spray grease (sometimes in Poundland) - but I rather suspect you will need to open them up - and apply the white grease......

Hmmm...that's what I thought I'd end up doing. So if they're greased with the proper stuff they're nice and quiet are they? It's the ones on my rear springs that make the noise - the ones at the front end seem to be fine. Do you think they're better than the bushes with the steel tubes in (were they fitted to the vans and pickups)?

They should be fine with a good greasing - but I do believe some makes are worse than others in this respect - probably something to do with the hardness (shore number) I suppose. I don't think Metalastic bushes were ever fitted to the Minor as standard - although I believe a common and very successful after market fitment in the eyebolts....... You say the rears - they should of course only be tightened up with the full suspension load applied. Perhaps worth a try - jack it up, loosen all - spray in grease (lots of it..) lower the car and bounce it around, then take the load on the suspension (trolley jack under the diff casing works well) making sure it's not going to fall - and tighten it all up.

If there is still squeaking after doing the above, have a look at the rear spring leaves, it might be them. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to cure a rear end creak, by re-greasing the bushes with white grease, I finally had success by dealing to the dry spring leaves.

Thanks chaps. - it's definitely not the springs because I put oil/diesel on them so I shall get some white grease and tackle it at the weekend :D
