use the car last night. when i switch
off the engine ran on

but only for a couple of seconds

what would cause this....

Retarded ignition timing and/or rich mixture causing carbon to form in the combustion chambers.......

Seriously, what Roy said - but it can also be from running lean

Pull a plug out and have a look at it
