Major oil loss

Post by Lin »

Help,

I have a 1098cc Minor (1970) and am a complete novice. It's Leaking a lot of oil which appears to be from around the sump and breather hole. The problem appears worse at higher speeds. All the appropriatte gaskets have been changed. Does anyone have any ideas?

many thanks

oil leaks

Post by Willie »

I wonder if this problem is due to excessive crankcase pressure?
I am not sure but your year of car probably has a rubber pipe
which joins to a stub on the actual Carb( NOT the air filter)??
This pipe will be connected either to the outlet under the exhaust
manifold or to a mushroom shaped device situated on the inlet
manifold. If either of those are the case then check that your
oil filler cap has a built in wire mesh filter in it. You could of course
have a pretty worn engine! The seals at each end of the sump are
strips of cork which need renewing periodically. iF YOUR ENGINE
number starts with 10ME- then it has one of the later'controlled
breathing systems i.e. the breather pipe will go to the CARB not
the AIR FILTER
