Hi all,

I need to drill the holes for the front seat belt buckle stalks on my 1970 traveller.
Do they go in the floor or on the tunnel?

Can someone could please post a photo, or dimensions so I know where to drill.

Cheers
Moray

Hi, I drilled holes in the tunnel as indicated in other posts. I then used plates with welded nuts on the underside of car and thick washers on the inside using the bolts that came with the seat belts. The location is dependent on the type of buckle; I placed mine so that when sat in the seat the buckle was on the hip, seats up in photo and sorry carpet installed, but hope this helps. Just make sure the plate is on flat metal and does not interfere with hand brake cables. Fitting this is a two person job as one needs to be under car holding the plate and the other in the car putting in the bolt.

only photo available, but could remove carpet and supply more if required

mine are bolted into the tunnel, driver's 10 inches from the rear seat, passenger 8 inches, and just over two inches down from top of tunnel[frame]Image[/frame]

You need to make sure the bolts don't foul on the prop shaft - or interfere with the hand brake cable run.....

Awesome, thanks all.

I will go the tunnel, but wait until the seats are in before drilling.

I'm pretty sure mine were originally on the floor, as I've replaced both floor panels but kept the tunnel.
And there are no holes on the tunnel.

I think the tunnel looks neater, and they will be out of the way of back seat passengers.

Cheers
Moray

Wait till you have the seats fitted and the belts ready too.
There is no standard length for the floor part that I'm aware of.

A 1970 Traveller should have right angle brackets on the floor either side of the prop shaft tunnel

Thanks, that would confirm why there are no holes in the tunnel.
I seem to remember the z brackets you mention, I'll have a dig through my old parts to see if I can find them.

Moray,

I fitted mine to the rear foot wells in Boris (2 door).

There's a bit too much cable for my taste which ever way so I picked this up 2nd hand (Ford Focus Mk1 rear) which I plan to mount on top of the tunnel with appropriate plate.

Should look much neater :D

Good luck which ever way you go.

My 1971 Traveller has captive nuts in the floor for the seatbelts, either side of the tunnel so well away from the prop shaft and handbrake cables.

No idea if they're original or installed by an owner but they don't get in the way particularly once the carpet is down.

The floor isn't particularly strong there (flat panel) ---- better in the tunnel wall.
