Morris Minor Owners Club

My car has a standard Marina 1275 engine, which has been recently tuned by a professional engine tuner, who used to work on Minis, which he also raced. He tuned the Minor in his workshop, without a rolling road and without road-testing it. He pronounced the engine as very sweet and 'spot on'. On a trip out in yesterday's sunny weather the car seemed to 'hunt' at speeds between 40 and 60 mph and was rather 'flat' when attempting to climb hills, or when required to accelerate smoothly in fourth. The car is fitted with an SU carb and a very noisy pancake filter ( presumably for reasons of space). Could anyone venture an opinion as to whether electronic ignition would improve the running, and if so could anyone suggest a make which is suited to this engine?

No - electronic ignition will not make the slightest difference to your problem...... The 'tuning' has obviously been incorrect..... He may have 'raced' a Mini - but did he lead the field, or trail round at the back...... ?? What colour are the spark plugs? And what needle is in the carb.......?

100% AGREEMENT it's not that points are bad ,just more trouble than solid state(more moving parts,and lots of cr*p on the market)

I 've had points for 50+ years without any nasty problems.....nice and simple and easy to fix if they do happen to go wrong - which really only happens if neglected.....

Pain when you get older and your peepers aren't as good anymore though.

Just fitted an electronic kit to my Fiesta, and the difference is amazing!

No m,ore fiddlin' 'round burning my hands and ripping my knuckles anymore too on what is possibly one of the most awkward dissy's to get too that's ever existed

I've had a-series-spares electronic ignition and found them good. They do treat their customers well.

I keep my old dizzy in the boot as a spare, because the electronic ones aren't really fixable. Recommend the change though, I had about 3 Chinese condensers go (always get nos!) on the motorway and I was fed up of it.

Its fit and forget, so you don't have to fiddle with it all the time!

No electric igniation coil - whay ? It is not improw runing - check ur plugs and points and think about 'what is the Mr Roy says ' good luck

after replacing several condensers this year and having the dizzy in and out so many times, I fitted accuspark module. can honestly say that the car starts better, idles better and certainly runs better.

Is it easy to fit the electronic ignition kit with the dizzy in situ or is it best to take the unit out of the engine?

No more difficult than fitting a new set of points and no need to remove the distributor.
