New bracket or not (alternator)

Post by C.J. »

Getting conflicting opinions on this one (outside the forum)

Will my new alternator need a different bracket from the existing one that holds the dynamo in place with some slight mods, or as someone else said, it'll be needing a bracket off a Metro? :-?

The 'spacer' method doesn't really support the alternator properly. Good chance it will run off square, and/or break the front lug! So YES - you need a special bracket - but I suspect a Metro one won't do, because they moved the threaded mounting holes in the block forward on the later engines......so while it may be 'better' it still won't be right. This is the bracket you need....... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CLASSIC-MINI- ... 4174935d1f

Excellent BM'.

I shall order one.
Presumably suitable for all standard motors/ages?

WOW!
Turned up today less than 24 hours after I ordered it, and no charge for p&p either.
Top company to deal with.

Meanwhile, will the existing drive belt fit?

Depends what length it is! And what condition....... Generally you want an 825 belt with an alternator - and a spare to carry inside the spare wheel dish....

All fitted, done and dusted. Bracket was ace, and Miss C.J. can now see where she's going at night with her new halogens too.
Might even treat her to a wireless now!

Thanks very much for all the advice.

Man hugs, :P
