Clutch squeal

All,
My 1000 has recently developed a sqealing noise as I lift my foot off the clutch. Only noticed it in the last few days, seems to be worse when changing down through the gears but it does it when changing up as well. It's worse the quicker I let the clutch out. Haven't noticed any actual difference in performance of the clutch (yet!).
Can anyone shed any light on this? Is it the beginning of the end of this clutch? If it makes a difference, the car is a '68 1000 saloon with a standard 1098 engine.
Thanks as always for your help, and usual apologies if this is something really obvious!
Cheers,
Tom
