How long does it take to chrome grill surrounds, 4 hub caps and 2 bumpers?????

My stuff has been at a chroming company for 10 weeks now. I went yesterday to see what the hell is going on and its all still sat where the guy put it when I first gave it to him. He said 8 weeks, then another two weeks...rant...rant...rant!!!!!

If you can't do it in 8 weeks don't say you can. Then don't say 2 weeks when you can't.

Deep breath.

Granted these guys are engineers...not customer service experts... ..but OMG...My moggie is sat outside with the summer passing by and I can't get out in it cos I've no /front grill/bumpers/valances/number plate on the car.

It's getting that way now I just wanna get thew stuff back and take it somewhere else rather than give these guys my cash but how long do I wait then????

By the way...I am NOT HAPPY.

When I was in the trade, six to eight weeks was the general lead time for jobs to go through a workshop/toolroom that required several processes to complete.

Some took a single day, some took 10 weeks.

Can I ask how much you were quoted?

I'm thinking perhaps they have realised, they have under quoted due to not having much work at the time.... then got a bit of a rush on out of the blue.

I'd go back and ask for an honest answer as to when you would get it without drawing swords and on that basis possibly collect and move on like jagnut suggests.

Remove the parts - they are never going to do it. I would never have wasted 8 weeks waiting! The job will take a day - so just ask them when that day is - and deliver the parts the day before, making it clear you will be back for them in two day's time..... But frankly - better just go elsewhere...

I sent the grill off the lowlight to be rechromed and they quoted me 12 weeks, it was back in about 6 weeks and they made a first class job.

Do tell us who 'they' are then!!

The local chrome shop has a 4 day turnaround near me and a great job

Spill the beans Lee ! There's no law against telling us where good service is to be found........

This is exactly what I did yesterday morning.

This morning I phoned again. He's now 1/2 way through the job. Amazing.
Why does it take phoning someone every morning, pecking at them, to get the job done. I am a very patient man but I have got limits.
Both bumpers, all grill chrome, steel side runners under the doors, ashtray, headlight surrounds £200, which when priced up to buy new is a good price...but still.

The company I used was Prestige Electro Plating in Mexborough South Yorkshire, a friend also uses them for juke box parts which are usually always soft castings and always a great job on them as well.

Absolutely no doubt I will not be going back ...even if they come back gold plating, which would be ironic, considering the company's name. (You can have a guess if you like)

I would have taken the parts away had they not made a start within a reasonable time... I do not like my car parts, some of which are hard to find, lying around in other people's hands.

I once heard that a chroming shop lost some 1930s Packard bumpers.

I have found with my business when I am having work done a bit of pressure always gets the job speeded, sometimes, even though you might be annoyed when you pick them up curse under your smile as you never know when you might need them again as less people are now able to work on small batches of goods.

Side under door runners back, polished and shiny, and rectangular grill surrounds back and back on car. Bumpers and hub caps still in his office where he put them, now, 12 weeks ago. Its now getting to the point where when I phone, (which is every day) the boss - guy doing the job - is out or not in today or whatever else.

How many of you would have been fired by now or gone out of business if this was how you ran your business or how you did your job.?.?. Unbelievable.

Well take them back. Take your business elsewhere. I can't believe the downright arrogance and contempt for customers these fellows are showing.

Got it all back. 15 weeks. I am not saying anymore.
