alternator

Post by les »

I've bought an alternator kit, now realize the coil needs relocating. I don't want to bolt it to the inner wing and have an HT lead making the place look untidy as it travels to the distributor cap. Anyone solved this problem? I'll be scratching my head tomorrow!

Inner wing for mine - keeps it away from engine vibes and heat. Not at all untidy....well, compared to the rest anyway!

How about putting it up on the bulkhead like the earlier minors did anyway?

I've looked at the bulkhead area and also the inner wing, the former is too cramped but the inner wing behind the screen wash bottle, on reflection, does seem pretty neat as the leads can cross over near the bulkhead. I moan a lot about spare part quality but so far the alternator kit I've bought appears rather good. The wiring harness is cloth covered with the appropriate ends, the brackets are virtually the same thickness as the original, and the belt is the right length. However the actual alternator is designed to be bolted to the outer /front of the water pump, which is not a machined surface, whereas the dynamo bolted to the inner/rear face (machined). Also I had to put a spacing washer onto the adjusting bracket pillar to align the bracket to the alternator fixing. There again not a major headache, so all in all 8 out of 10. ----and for a Morris part that's a good score, believe me! ps: That's assuming it works when done! :D
