Morris Minor Owners Club

Family now old enough to do their own thing so do not need the mum and dad's taxi anymore!
Time to get back into Minor ownership to take me into my retirement years with the intention to use it on high days and Sundays and generally enjoy being an owner again.
I am looking for a Series MM saloon ideally a Lowlight ( becoming rare I know ), or the Highlight version and I would appreciate some thoughts as to what sort of price I should be considering.
I do not wish to restore one so would prefer any serious work to have already been completed therefore the condition to be reasonably good and usable.

i have kept my eye on prices for some time now seems you can get a restored car for around 5000 but have seen some for 7 - 8000 depends on the finish, there are a lot of great looking cars about from 1500 - 5000 below this they all seem to need lots of work. - have you a budget in mind?

Looks great to me ! I'm guessing it will sell v quickly - so don't sit on your hands !!!

There have been several on ebay lately for restoration but not many come up for sale in very good condition needing no work. One recently sold for over £5000 at Kings Lynn Classic Car Auctions. Superb bodywork and paint but wrong engine, grille,interior,steering column etc so would have cost a lot to put back to original.The club can help with some parts if you do find one with a few jobs to do plus we do sometimes get to know of ones for sale.

I had one on the forum for £1450 needed no welding as had new floors and everything done to it and lots of nos bits great original 1950 reg and nobody was interested sold for £1250

Thank you all for your replies. I have noticed the Lowlight for sale and it looks absolutely ideal for me. My budget is around the £4500 mark maybe £5k if the good lady allows it! So unfortunately can't stretch to the asking price. As from many previous posts on here, "a classic car is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it" and I would not want to insult or cause any embarassment to the owner by making an approach at this lower amount. Such a shame as I would be looking to keep and cherish the right car for a long time. I will just have to be patient and keep looking.

When someone asks £5,500 - they really mean £5,000 and 'may' accept £4,800. I wouldn't hesitate to go along and view the car, pick a few faults (if there are any!) and then explain the situation to the seller - and offer all you can afford. But for a few extra £sss - restoration of a poorer example will cost MUCH more. The quality will still be appreciated long after the cost has been forgotten......and a car in this condition if kept indoors and with good maintenance will not lose any value over the years.
