Aftermarket seats

Has anyone fitted aftermarket seats to a two-door Minor?

I was looking at Newton Commercial seats, which are nice but very expensive, and then came across these from Corbeau, which look quite similar yet cost much less.

The site gives the measurements of the seat but I think you really have to see them in situ to know whether they'll fit and, especially, whether they'll tilt forward enough to allow passengers into the rear seat!

It would be great to see some pix if anyone has fitted these - and get some feedback on fitting, comfort, practicality, etc

Thanks all!

Paul

It will depend entirely on what subframe you fit for the Corbeau seats.

I can't see any mention of a tilting function. Yes, they recline, but you might have to sit there and twiddle the adjust wheel to let people in the back... worth finding out before investing!

You would have to build the tilting into the subframe - and have some way of locking them down - to be safe.

Or buy seats that definitely tilt!

We fitted the Newton Commercial seats last year, just before going off on the Euroclassic and ~2,500 miles of driving in Spain and France. Because of the Brittany Ferries strike 2 days before we were due to get the Plymouth/Santander ferry, we ended up driving from Le Havre to Biarritz in one hop (nearly 600 miles), followed by another ~300 miles the next day to get to the start that was only 160 miles from Santander in the first place! Definitely much, much better than the original (re-upholstered) seats from 1958!

From previous trial sittings in the same type of seats, they felt very 'perched up', so I cut 2" (50mm) off the back of the sub-frame to lower the back of the seat and they are very much better for it.

The base is fixed, and the back tilts forward for rear seat access - not quite as easy as the original fold/seat tilt on the passenger side and seat tilt on the driver's side, but it is reassuring to have the seat base secured front and rear now.
