Ignition light

I repIaced the blown ignition light bulb with the correct 2.5 volt bulb but it only gives a faint glow when the ignition is switched on.
Also I seem to be getting a max 10 amps charge, so the ammeter is showing a discharge when the lights are on (whilst driving)
