At 72 years, my memory is going a bit! I have dismantled a Morris 1000 given to me for my 70th. Restored bodywork etc., now re-fitting Torsion Bar and front suspension. I haven't moved the lever splines at all; but I just can't get everything to fit! There is about a 2" gap between the end of the Wishbone arm and fulcrum/lower link. I think last time I did this I had to 'force' the two together somehow! Nothing in my handbooks...

Should I remove the lever from the torsion bar and move it a few splines? Surely not....

Please help an old enthusiast....

You need to put a jack under it and take the load...... Once it's at the right height - attach the lower trunnion and the front half of the lower arm.

Thanks, but that is where problem begins! I have jack under front wishbone arm, attached to Stub Axle but can't get the Upper link anywhere near the front shock absorber arm. If I jack it up, it just lifts the whole car! I just wonder if I have replaced the two torsion bars the wrong way round! (The other one was quite difficult to fit!). Help!

Attached to stub axle ????? Should just be the rear part of the lower arm - attached to the T bar...... Assuming the engine etc is in the car - you obviously have the T bar too far down on the splines - knock it back on the splines and move it up a couple of notches. Then try again. The kingpin (with stub axle/brakes etc should still be attached to the upper arm - to make it slightly easier - remove the rebound stop to allow the upper arm to drop down lower, although I don't bother to do that.

you do need the weight of the engine in the car (or something equivalent in the engine bay/front X member tied to the floor etc)
