Why are they so damn expensive?
I find it to be a bit of a joke that two essentially pressed steel panels welded together could cost £150. The car only cost me £600.
I bought a stainless fuel tank for an MGB a couple of years ago for less than £150!
Even a normal MGB tank is only £52.00 or nickel plated one £59.50 all inclusive of VAT.
How much for a stainless Mog tank? £500?

Hello BB,
I'm not commenting about the price, but there is usually a bit more than just two bits of pressed steel sheets, most tanks are baffled internally to stop the fuel sloshing about too much. This obviously adds to the amount of work required in its construction.

Alec

biffabacon,
Also consider that they last so long and many people would buy a second hand one rather than new (I have had a spare tank for 10 years but will probably never need it). The tank bottome half is rathewr deep drawn which makes the tool very expensive, and requires a pretty substantial press. The fact that it's not a high volume part pushes the prices up (cost of tool divided by number of parts..)

Well I thought they were reasonable at £80 especially as they last so long and in the last 6-8 years I have only heard of one person who had to get a replacement in our branch and I think he got a second hand one.
