Hi
I been trying to see if could get some brake drums made as the early drums are very hard to find.
Is there any drawings of brake drums still around I have asked Gaydon motor museum and they don't have any tec drawings now.
I know a very good pattern maker who could make a pattern by copying an old drum but he would like the drawing as well if one can be found.

Who would be interested in ordering a set?

Remember early drums had BSF thread wheel bolts, later drums had UNF threads. I think that the rear splines were different. Front grease caps were also different

My 1950 MM Tourer was much more interesting then Mike's.
After being somewhat confused I eventually discovered I have BSF drums on the back and UNF on the front. BUT I had only x6 BSF bolts and x10 UNF !!!
Two of the hole threads on a front drum were next to useless so a friend sorted these. He screws in a bigger bolt into a larger bored hole, and then machines this out to the correct thread. At the same time he machined out the braking faces of the two front drums. Maybe these holes were the ones that had the incorrect threads in.
Finally two new bolts from ESM sorted the problem. I have documented this for potential future owners of course.

The Unf bolts had 5/8 A/F heads which can wear the bolt holes in the wheels. My solution to that problem was to replace the wheel bolts with bolts screwed from the inside of the drum. The bolt heads were sawn off and the ends peened over and welded in place. 3/4 A/F wheel nuts were fitted which cured the wear problem
