Very Left Wing....

1962, 4 door, 948cc Olive Green.


The driver side front wing has become non flush with the rest of the wing, and driver door, at the very bottom-see photo, it tends to outride the rest of the panels and is loose.

Having read and researched I do not know whether this is a small repair right up to a wing replacement.

Please may I ask:

is it an inner wing section or sections that needs replacing?

Outer wing replacement?

3 Or both?

In replacing sections, inner and/or outer, is there any welding involved?


I can remove a wing and clean up behind and so forth, but I cannot weld.

Any help would be gratefully received.[frame][/frame]

That''s a RIGHT wing !!! When you remove the wing I suspect it will be well rotted - and more than likely there will be rot where it fixes to the inner flitch plate ..... Start learning the art of MIG welding.......

Yes, I know it's a right wing-the photo is for illustrative purposes only.

Learning the art of MIG welding is not always possible, I am disabled.

But you say Drivers side anyway - which will be Right - in the UK anyway........ MIG welding is not a physically demanding job -if you can unbolt a wing etc - pretty sure you will manage MIG.... But otherwise - I guess you will just have to investigate - and if necessary call in outside help .

Hi John, If it is rust, this is usually obvious on the outside with a vertical line of corrosion up the rear edge adjacent to the door. This is caused by a seam which traps moisture. Poor fit is more likely to be resultant from bad fitting rather than corrosion. If you can get a photo of the area in question this may help. (PS Hope the petrol pump works OK)

Inner wing would require welding - outer wing is a 'bolt on' job if you have another wing - and the inner wing is in good condition. But from what you describe that sounds a bit unlikely.
