Hello everyone,
As I continue going round Morris replacing hard poly bushes with softer "comfort" ones, does anyone have any alternatives for the other seals on the front suspension? Poly bushes are easy enough to buy individually but does anyone do the seals separately? I've only ever seen them in the complete kits. As they seem just as poor quality as the modern rubber bushes, has anyone on here discovered any alternative ways of keeping the dirt out of the joints? I've considered slicing up a silicon hose of the right diameter for the plain ones on the lower joint and maybe a couple of thicknesses of heat shrink on the upright's swivel joints but I'm not too sure of the suitability/durability of these ideas. Hopefully a manufacturer will come up with "poly seals" in time if there's enough demand but has anyone else tried anything different?

I got fed up with those seals failing too. My alternative was to wrap self-amalgamating tape round the new seals as soon as I'd fitted them. Haven't had a problem since.

I agree the quality and sizing of the swivel pin seals varies considerably and invariably are too loose and let the dirt past them. I am selective in purchasing swivel seals and will only buy what I can see. The best place to buy seals is at autojumbles/old car meets as you may be lucky and pick up some MOWOG NOS as I have done.

As regards the trunion pin seals I only use Marina trunion pin seals (if you can get hold of them) as they are of a much better quality and a little thicker at 3.45mm x 8.7mm wide. Fortunately I have sufficient BL NOS to last me.
Even when I have dismantled very old Marina trunions the seals were still in good serviceable condition so it proves they have a much better service life than the original BMC Minor seals. Unfortunately the Marina swivel pins seals are not suitable for use on a Minor.
I have even kept the serviceable ones off the old Marina trunions as they are better than the new Minor ones.

Having used self amalgam tape on the shrouds and other parts of my sailing boat I am aware of its uses and its lack of pliability once installed so how do you compensate for the turning of the swivels or do you just install it only on half of the seal i.e. on the trunion half and not where the swivel moves inside the seal ?
