Went to look at a split screen convertible today. Log book had genuine chassis number, but plate missing. Stamped number not found - too much paint.- I guess, even if found, still no proof a genuine convertible.
Looked at strengthening plates - A & B post.....but still wasnt sure. Could someone post some good pics of genuine convertible strengthening plates, specifically the welding. Looked everywhere for pics, but no luck
Thanks
Andy

Your in Haywards Heath now Andy? Thats where my trav is residing at the moment!
I haven't got any pics of the strengthening plate, but they were spot (not plug) welded on on later cars and there was a curve on the lower edge with a folded return.
Was there the additional strengthing at the bottom of the B pillars?

You will need to 'copy this pic as' open with an ap that allows you to zoom in and then put on your sun glasses on as the ford sunburst red from the 80's may damage your eyes! May be of help, this is a genuine 61 ragtop.[frame]

Declan in Germany has provided me with some excellent close up shots of the bits in question.
Am I right in assuming that a chop top would still have tell tale spot welds, visible on the underside of the rear parcel shelf??
