Good article, when I retired I had a job adjusting to small engines. Here are some larger failures [frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame]at least on our engines we don't need a crane to lift the crank out!!!!

Here's a Cummins diesel that a connecting rod broke. It was running at 1800 RPM under load. It even knocked the cast aluminum sump off.[frame][/frame]

Blimey Smithskids, what did the damage to the crank journal, a meteorite?
The bent con rod doesn't look very well designed, is that why it's separate to the big end?

Hi MarkyB, the interferance fit of the con rod bush wasn't right causing fretting hence cracks. bingo the rod let the piston drop then spun round, cut the engine almost in half then snapped the bottom end bolts.
