sale with or without MOT?

I have just failed my MOT on my 1967 Morris Minor, and there is a lot of work to do on the body work. It's going to cost around £450 to pass the MOT, and I can't afford to keep it any longer.
Should I sell it as it is with no MOT or should I get the work done and then sell it? Will I be able to sell it for £450 more?

What work needs doing? Pictures of the affected areas would help.
Get quotes from other places, maybe mobile welders, check local papers.

It needs a lot of welding work underneath, where over the year people have patched it up, it's corroded around the patches. it's going to be a good 6 hours of welding. i've taken it to 2 garages now, the first one gave me a quote of £417. i took it to a second garage, they are cheaper but they think the first garage has underestimated the amount of work that needs doing. they've said £450 to do everything to get it through the MOT. However, in the future it's going to need a lot of work on the body, the bottom of the doors and boot are pretty rusty and one of the wings is pulling away. I can't afford to get all of this work done in the long term. I've really loved owning it but I think it's time for someone else who can afford it's upkeep to take it on now. i just need to decide if i should get the MOT work done and sell it in a few weeks/months or not get the work done and sell it in the next 2/3 weeks.
it doesn;t help that i'm moving house in a few weeks and without the MOT i won't be able to take it with me.

Give it a good clean, take the best looking pictures you can and put it on Ebay.
Moving house is stressful enough already.

You CAN take it with you - just book an MOT at a garage near ( on the way to) your new house and it's perfectly ok to drive the car to that garage - of course maybe you decide to stop off at your new house , on the way. And then decide to 'postpone' the MOT until later.......... :wink: But if you can't hope to do the work yourself - you will be better to sell it on as is.

If you are bothered I have a great welder who is doing a complete rebuild on my Morris and doing a mint job very reasonable cost thus far less than 600 for my complete basket case

Based in Norfolk

I would sell it, use the money from it to put towards a better one in the future. Sadly you cannot keep cars forever if they need work, and most likely someone will fix it up and give it a loving home.

ok i've decided to put it up on ebay, for a resonable amount. If it sells then i'll get a good amount for it, if it doesn't then I'll get the work done and sell it later.

Well it looks very nice. The other MOT issues are trivial of course - it's the corrosion that is worrying. I assume none was visible a year ago when you bought it. Good luck with the sale.

Looks good. However, you have no pictures of the 'Rust' elemement, or the interior trim condition and the engine bay. If the car has not been off the road since the last MOT the corrosion should not be too bad. Welding cost shouldn't be too much as long as the area needing attention is reasonably easy to access. Your location probably leads to inflated service costs.

Mill Hill made me wonder about Minor Mania Ltd , but they were dissolved a few years ago according to;

Are they trading under another name I wonder?
