Another £7,000 Traveller On Ebay Worth Only Half.

Post by Morris Mike »

They are all jumping on the 7 grand gravy boat....before long its going to capsize. :( :(

To be that price range its got to be perfect, not shoddy like this two tone maroon one. Also the Wickes fencing panels fitted to the spare wheel area look naff.
I have nothing against people putting a high value on their car after putting some effort into presenting it correctly, but this is taking the P..s.

I know of someone who just purchased a £2,000 Traveller for over £4,000 because they think it is very retro to own one, having just looked at the paintwork and chrome, and think the fittings are cool.!!!!
These are just the type of people who are shoving up the prices beyond the average enthusiast`s reach.

I am just waiting for the first £20,000 private advert....I know I will place one. :D

Hmm, the dark patches on the wood where damp has got under the varnish let it down really and would be the costly or time consuming part to put right. The bit of fencing over the spare wheel can easily be binned and replaced with something better. Odd coloured rear wing may be a scrape thats been repaired later and a bad paint match. Non original interior style would put off any sort of purist too, but assuming its solid it could be a super modified car for someone.
As for value, its on an auction so the market will decide....

He has a Buy-It-Now price of £7,000. His reserve would be set at the same amount, unless he is a complete idiot.

Ok at the end of the day the market will decide how much they want to pay for this car,but will they get it ,if they only value it at say £3,000.

He will then re-list it for perhaps £6,500.

My point was apart from the mismatched wing colour or bits of timber, the car has not been presented properly for something that he thinks is worth £7,000.
They are still sitting watching East Enders, instead of getting off their arses and working on their vehicles to improve them like me or you would, but letting the rising market prices give them a nice fat wallet for doing nothing.

Here you go,I purchased this about a year ago for £1800,I have done nothing to it whatsoever, give me £5,000.

Of course not.!!!

If i want to add value to the vehicle i have a shed load of work to carry out on it,to make it presentable for the realistic price I may achieve.

£7500 is roughly the price (taking exchange rate into account) that my Traveller got when I sold it last April by auction here in France. The bidder had decided how much he wanted to pay and he wanted the car because it was LHD, the colour suited him and the wood was in good condition. Travellers are being put up for sale over here for much more - but I doubt that they go for the price that the vendor wants.

Classic cars do tend to be more expensive over here - I suspect that many are bought and leave the UK to be sold on within less than a year.

I'd kept Grommit for four years. Did anybody on MOT 2013 see her near Granville ?

It may be interesting to future reactions with insurance companies agreeing to a 'guaranteed market price' towards some of these escalating asking prices that some will no doubt be tempted perhaps regretfully as an impulse buy .

I think a big problem thought is a lot of the 'newbies' decide that they want a Morris Minor because they had one back in the day, automatically assume that because they are old they are worth money, then go straight onto eBay and buy one for a ridiculous price. They often then decide a year later to sell it because they don't like it and try and get more money for it, slowly pushing up the prices. A lot of dealers aren't helping either, advertising cars for £14&15,0000 that are worth no where near that money.

I was in this position a few years ago, but I did research. I went to various shows, spoke to the owners , went on here and found out the correct price to pay, and then bought one off eBay for less than the market price at the time. I was lucky.

I was negotiating with a bloke about a 67 minor 2-door that had been sat in a shed since the late 70's. It was rusty, yet he thought that because it was a classic car, it was worth money. He wanted £1000 for it, I told him that that is what I paid for mine, which has MOT etc and is solid. I offered him the scrap value and he said no, he would find a buyer at £1000. Funny, 3 years later its still there

This traveller was on the 'Car & Classic' site for sale at about £7,950 a few months back.

It obviously never sold at that price & he/she is now reduced to trying e-bay.

East Enders is a true story about people living in an East London Cul-De-Sac.
They never leave the place to go to work,on holiday, visit classic car shows, drink in other pubs,or watch Coronation Street.

Notable true to life characters have been Dirty Den,The Kray Twins who ran the Vic and "Your avin a laugh" Babs Windsor.

Not many Morris Minors parked in garages or lockup`s to drool over, buy or restore.

There was talk of a coach trip leaving the Vic for the day to visit Enfield Motor Pageant.

morris mike,

what are those wheels on your traveller?

We would like some modern tubeless steels for ours, we want to use modern tyres but want to keep the standard look.

Kevin -

They are 13" marina wheels.

ESM (and prehaps others?) now sell wider wheels with the modern lip design, with the standard center. This allows you to fit slightly wider tyres too

In my opinion - the small Marina wheels are ghastly........ (and need 3.75" pcd hubs/axle...) look for the original 'van' 4.5 J x 14 wheels - or as Matt points out - aftermarket wider wheels are available and look very original.
