Bonnets up, Number Spotter about!

How many owners will allow me to note their vehicles' details this weekend at the MMOC Rally?

Is there an easier way to inform owners what I do - explaining it EVERY time is exhausting!!

HELP

Suggestions please.

Have you thought about maybe wearing a sandwich board explaining what you are doing? :)

Thanks Louise, but I really don't wish to look like a Jeremy Kyle reject!

Sensible suggestions only please....

i fear a sandwich board is a sensible suggestion if you do not want to explain yourself hundreds of times..

or take a friend with you and get them to explain what you are doing

you are welcome to come to the custom and modified register stand on sunday and take the numbers off my lilac convertible..

Here is one spotted on MOT this year, saw this and thought of you :)[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Looking for a body plate;[frame]Image[/frame]
Nada.
Number plate;[frame]Image[/frame]

From MOT this year, visit to a canny breakers yard.
This one and several other classic restored or in the process, and stored in a big shed.

Yes, those were my thoughts exactly :D The problem is that there is no condition class judging this year so the numbers of cars with their bonnets up is likely to be pretty small in comparison to previous years. You won't be able to just lurk around until the owners disappear and then check the details - you'll need to ask them to open their bonnet and most people will ask why you are asking them to open their bonnet! You could maybe make some flyers up to explain what you are doing and hand them out to the people you ask to open their bonnets? And maybe next year you could send the details into Minor Matters so that people know in advance who you are and what you are doing and why? It might cut down on the number of times you need to explain it.

I spotted this one at the rally in Mosney at the weekend[frame]Image[/frame]

This is the black 4 door that belongs to the number, it has autumn leaf seats fittes. Saw another Irish built one and it was darkk green with dark green vinyl seats.[frame]Image[/frame]

I think you have mine, but if not you are welcome to have them. I'll be in Gracie on the Dual Personality Register stand with the bonnet up (hopefully)! :D

A printed T shirt may be more weildy than a sandwich board... Just a thought, but would give you and air of officialdom perhaps.
You've got all my numbers anyway.

Nope!

Will be carrying a clipboard & copy of the book.

10 seconds flicking through the book will render the owner
unconcious, allowing me to note the their vehicles' numbers.

How's that for a plan?!

A photo on here would still help - you have my SII number, but you would be welcome to try to decipher the one down on the engine tie plate (N/S) and maybe you could also show me this hidden bulkhead one some people have referred to.
Regards, George (that's me in my sig pic).

On a Cowley built Minor there are usually FOUR numbers;

Chassis number stamped into the o/s/f bulkhead, or some post '65s into the o/s floorpan
Chassis plate on the o/s/f bulkhead - post '67 UK LCVs on n/s cab dr liner

Body type id on the tie plate NMP giving body code & progressive number
Body type id on the n/s/f bulkhead - pre 62 with Cowley production number

Some '50s Minors just have their Cowley number on the b/head.

Heavens above...I REALLY should get out more shouldn';t I?!!!

I suppose those who don't mind someone having a rummage about under their bonnet could always customise their messageboard sticker (available from the stand on branch avenue) :D
