Sounds fine, electronic ones can make a rather harsh tick, I replaced mine with the points version for this reason.
The tick just lets you know it's working :)

Worry if it STOPS ticking... The electronic ones don't seem to be as reliable (gross understatement) as the good old points pumps.......

When you say "electronic", do you mean an SU with electronic switching instead of points, or one of those buzz-box affairs that whirr away to themselves (and usually generate far too much pressure for an SU carburettor)?

Difficult to diagnose a pump problem when we don't even know what type it is.

'tick' suggests the throw-over mechanism of the SU - rather than 'whirr'.......of Facet etc pump.

I've just been FORCED into fitting one,old su done for, waiting rebuild. very loud tick and also ticks on idle without pumping petrol.horible, rubbish copy. Will be re fitting the SU once rebuilt.and this QH copy will be in the boot as a spare. Its so harsh you can actually feel the tick through the steering wheel. If I was leaving it on I would be looking to isolate it from the body with a rubber mounting.

My electronic (point-free,& currently pointless) petrol pump is currently going at 50 to the dozen, so I intend to replace it with a proper SU type. My car has been converted to negative earth, so is any special action required to fit a new pump? Any advice, please.

No - but the problem with yours is likely to be an air leak on the intake side - assuming sufficient fuel in the tank of course - to flood the suction intake.......

Fit the SU if you can get one,my local(Tom Roy) has been out of stock for some time and waiting for back order, hence the QH copy I had to fit, which was the last one in stock at my local motor factor.Looks like genuine SU are becoming collectable.

97 hits on ebay - granted many are just points etc - and many of the complete pumps are not suitable for a Minor. But there are a few there that are suitable.

I have the electronic one, (the same as the one Declan posted) while it does click away merrily, I must admit I have come to accept the noise it makes...
I picked up a SU pump recently and overhauled it and am keeping it as a spare, mainly due to the fact (cue a breakdown) that the electronic one is working ok so I have no need to swop them over.
