falling numbers at events
today i went to a local show it was a glorious day and the general number of cars was down ,we had 2 cars from our branch and one car that was from the local area that was for sale i would have thaught there was 150 cars there in total when in previous years the venue has been full .[frame]

Re: falling numbers at events
Could be many factors - but fuel cost is now significant. I didn't go to what is usually the first event of my season today, because past two years it has rained miserably, the fuel cost is £50 for the round trip, it's pretty much the same cars every year - and the autojumble is utter rubbish....... . I'm only going to 'local' events from now on - and only if good weather is assured......

I agree that the continuing rise in the cost of fuel is probably making many people think twice about venturing out all the time and choosy about what / where they do go to..........
And how much of it is tax now??
And where exactly does this tax get spent??
I'm going to stop now before I go completely off topic................. (I also get pretty miffed just thinking about how they rip us off!)
Best wishes,
Mike.

Re: falling numbers at events
Must admit I have reduced attendance at events recently. Often it's the same cars year on year with the shows being little more than a classic car park - nice enough I guess, but I'm also interested in social history aspects of classic ownership.
I would dearly love to see decent automobiles at them too , but recently most have seemed to be small and poor quality with most space allocated to cheap tool suppliers.

Lets hope there is a good show at the National/ Centenary whatever then!
I must say, the autojumble at the national is probably one of my highlights of the weekend, but last year it was pretty poor/too expensive tbh for me.

Re: falling numbers at events
the thing is if we all stop going to events then the events will stop
organisers are not going to put on shows that no one goes to so you all are contributing to the decline by not attending
why have the car at all if you are not going to use it !!!!!!!
how many times a week do you drive it , not many i think you drive it at the weekend and there for do a show ..
try doing different shows why just do local ones drive a bit further and do one you haven't been to before....there are lots out there ..
we have 12 cars travelling down from scotland to the national in 2 weeks average round trip for us will be 750miles +++
it is what you make it .....we have attended the last 5 national events ....every one was a fun week end, the driving down and back was the best bit the cars are there to be driven ...go on get out and use them ....
just think
if no ones goes then the shows will stop and you have only your selves to blame ......
will we see you at MELROSE this weekend ROY ???/

I'll keep my eyes peeled at the EYTCC's East Coast run this Sunday, and report back figures. I urge anyone vaguely near by (starts in Hull and I live in Sheffield and it is worth the distance) to come.
