Time to consult the oracles.
The vacuum advance on my new to me 1959 saloon has ceased to function. Upon blowing in the carb end there is no movement in the dizzy end and a continuous flow of puff. Whats the chances of the problem being the diaphragm over the tube and whats the best way to check the diaphragm?

You need to SUCK - not blow. But if blowing gives a free flow then indeed the diaphragm is gone - new unit required. Consider a complete new dizzy from Accuspark or Simonbbc.
