Parcel shelf wanted... but not black

Has anyone found a supplier of cream parcel shelves? All the new ones I've found seem to be black, which I don't want.

I will scour the scrap yards (from the comfort of my desk) for a decent used one in the meantime.

Does anyone know why cream ones aren't available?

I thought all parcel shelves were black. Never heard of or seen any in cream.

The short shelves, Series MM/II are "cream". Don't know if short shelves are being produced in black, if so then a tin of paint might solve the problem

They all come in black these days, chances of finding a good second hand one are slim so best option would be to paint it. On my 63 with duo tone upholestry I painted it with some cream emulsion type paint.

Not the news I wanted to hear. I'll use the one I have and if nothing turns up l'll buy a black one and reach for the emulsion. Thanks all

Do you have an old parcel shelf? if you do and its in good nick then cover it with this,

I took my old shelf out and binned it as someone had painted it cream, the heater core had leaked and ruined the surface. I ended up putting a black one back in.

Some early 1000s also had cream parcel shelves - the ones that had a cream fibreboard surround round the black round heater did anyway (circa 61-62 era), but yes black is all that is available new.
I liberated a good used one out of an MM spares car, for a Series 2 convertible I was doing and for the Series 2 van I did a few years back, i bought a new black one and primed and sprayed it with car aerosol paints. It is supposed to have a slight glossy finish on one side and it looked very convincing when done. (I did ask Newton Commercial but their advice was just to paint a black one if I was that bothered!). Not sure how many folk appreciated the effort in painting one, but it made me happy anyway :)

It's fairly easy to re-cover a black padded roll with cream vinyl which gives the right look at the front and, as others have said, paint the fibre board with an emulsion or eggshell. You can buy suitable vinyl from your local fabric warehouse such as Dunelm Mill. The instructions of how to cover the padded roll are available on the Newtons website too :-) good luck
