Can anyone point me towards a sympathetic body shop or restorer in the Newcastle area please? There are 3 Minors in the family and one needs new sills and the floor tidying.

A few years ago we contacted the local club for help, but that ended in a bit of a wild goose chase unfortunately.

I would welcome all suggestoins and experiences, good or bad, so please help keep another Morris on the road :D

If you last contacted the local branch a few years ago it might be worth contacting them again. Here's a link to the North East branch website: http://www.northeastmorrisminors.com/index.htm

Tom Roy near Stokesley is your best bet as he might know someone in your area who could do the work competently. http://www.tomroy.co.uk/

Failing this ask on sites like Retro rides or Piston heads as you might get some good contacts that way. As ever ask to see examples of their work, get 2/3 opinions/quotes for work and be wary of paying for work before it is completed.

If you are prepared to buy your own parts and take them along, Ian Barker at New Road Garage, Thornley (near Peterlee) is an old school Morris trained mechanic and bodywork guy (his family have owned the garage since 1927 - opened as Morris and Riley agents) 01429820302

I bought my Moggy from Simon Robinson at Ketton Garage , Darlington in Durham. He owns a classic car restoration garage. He was using the moggy as a runaround and hadn't done any work on it but the other cars he had for sale and resto' jobs he'd done were immaculate. But this is where to take it if you just want to hand your car over to someone and get it back a few months later...maybe I'm wrong.

Most importantly - survey the car completely and thoroughly before getting anything done - so there are no nasty surprises later. Essential to remove the sill covers and see what lies under there..... And as Jeff says - don't pay up until you see the work progressing.
