Hello. My Flasher/ Indicator suddenly stopped working. Both the indicator behind the steering wheel and the actual lights. All other lights work fine. Any suggestions as to how to fix it? Also, if I'm unsuccessful, any thoughts on a good Minor Traveller savvy garage in West London/ Putney/ Wimbledon area.
I'm a first time owner of a 1972 Traveller and not too mechanically clued up.

Is everything electrical ...other than the indicators...working OK ?
If the flashers and indicator light aren't working, then it might be either the flasher unit broken or a fuse blown ( hence my question is anything else electrical not working ).

First thing to look at is the Flasher un,it's a cylindrical tin can, about 4/5 cms high attached to the bulkhead, in the engine bay.
It will have three wires coming out of the bottom.
Make sure they are securely attached by trying to wiggle them gently.
1."B " terminal, Green wire brings 12 volts power to the Flasher unit from the fuse box.
2." P" terminal,Light green wire sends power 12volts to the warning light on the stalk.
3. " L "Green / Brown wire sends power 12volts to the indicator switch and then onto the right hand and left hand flashers.

The other end of wire 1.Green starts at the fuse box.Try the gentle wiggle test to make sure it's connected firmly.If the fusebox looks a bit mangy,you can take the fuse out( and test it with a multi meter for continuity Ohms setting, fuse removed from car if you have a multi meter ) clean both metal ends with some sandpaper, to get a good electrical contact and replace in the fuse box if OK.

If the Flasher unit is broken, it won't cost a fortune and most car accessory / motor factors will carry a replacement 3 pin Flasher unit.( under £10 )
If you don't feel relaxed about replacing it yourself, then any garage should be able to sort out the problem for you quickly and cheaply.
Have an investigation /poke around ( not literally with electrics ! )...see what you can find/ discover and report back for more help.Everybody has to start learning how to look after their Moggy sometime.
Good luck with it...it's not the end of the world.Most things on a Moggy are simple once someone experienced shows / tells you how.

Welcome to the forum. To test whether it is the flasher unit you can join the green and the green/brown wire, turn on the ignition and operate the stalk. The indicators should light up but not flash. If they do it proves everything is ok except the flasher unit.

See if the heater and wipers work, they share the same fuse. If they don't it's there you need to look.

Thanks for all the advice. I've determined that it's not the fuse and probably the Flasher Unit. Is it ok to replace it with a standard 12v 3 pin flasher unit form Halfords...

You won't necessarily get 'the real thing' from CW... And some of the electronic units sold from various suppliers have proven to be short lived..... Have you tested everything out by joining wires as suggested earlier?

You need a 3 pin 42+5W flasher unit. Should be available from any good motor accessory shop

I tried connecting the green/brown and green wires as suggested and on turning on the ignition and operating the stalk nothing happened so maybe it's not the Flasher Unit? Possibly the wires connected to the indicator which would mean removing the steering wheel to check I guess?

It's NOT the flasher unit then! You need a meter (Maplins) or a simple test lamp to test where you have power - there should be power at the green wire when the Ign is on.

a bulb test circuit is much less likely to confuse than a multimeter reading.

If it lights up a 20w bulb - there is a good 12v supply! A 12v reading on a meter does not always mean a good supply.

My one is a 12v lead light - I swapped the big bulb for a 20w one.
