Better airfilter for Marty

Hi
On previous post various members said the fitted airfilter would be strangling my 1275 engine with HS4 carb.
Could anybody suggest an improved air filter arrangement (Not a K&N due to cost/noise?)
Thanks in advance Dave[frame]

K&N are the best but on ebay there are cheaper versions

I've just fitted Monty with a separate inlet manifold and a HIF38. I've fitted the air filter system from a 1300 Marina but I had to make an adaptor plate to drop the filter horizontal to clear the bonnet. Nice and quiet and I'm told it should pass plenty of air but I don't know if a K&N type might be better? Don't want lots of noise though...

Fabricate a big flat washer to hold the actual filter in place the drive the car and see if it feels less strangled.
Drill some holes in the cover if you need more air flow.

I tried the holes in cover Marky - it was still useless. Some have success with air filter from other models in the BMC/Leyland range - I think Princess was thought to be good?

The Marina 1300 arrangement would do nicely but I think that on your carb the right-angled elbow for the carb to filter intake is missing.

The filter housing from a Morris 1800 will fit with a bit of fiddling. Hard part is finding one.
