Just curious, I was cleaning up the engine bay and noticed the front shock absorbers have alternative mounting holes set lower down and further in to the centre of the car- why is this? Anyone know? 8)

One of those mysteries of Morris Minor production. They can be useful for mounting a new engine steady bar when the original brackets have rusted away

I would suspect that they were used during production, possibly to hold the large spit that went through the large hole in the centre of the bulkhead.

According to the original design guys, they were put in place for a different (bigger) shock absorber - however the alternative shocker wasn't deemed necessary (& as you can see, the holes were never deleted).
