I was wondering if anybody could post on tube, or on here, a recording of a morris 1000 actually 'pinking'. I still don't know what it sounds like, and on my car no matter how far i advance the timing i can't hear anything that sounds like it. help appreciated.

Be careful how much you advance the ignition timing as the older low compression engines won't necessarily make the sound, yet can be seriously damaged.

Make sure the vacuum advance is working (and connected) - and then set for best idle. Pinking is a light rattling/tinkling sound.....

How's your hearing? Some of us from the older generation have a problem hearing an engine when its pinging.

WEll that might be it I have now advanced it as far as it will go without the engine starting to sound funny on idle and it still makes no pingy noise. it is a 1098 high compression, so should. how can I time the car without using such a method? i think ill just buy a strobe light.

Strobe is a waste of time/money - set it for best idle, and not kicking against the starter - that's all you need to do.

Get a younger person to ride shotgun w/you. Someone w/good hearing, not someone that's been pounding their ears w/overloud bass music.
