Now I have started to use my Minor I find the ignition key does not fit the boot lock.
If I dismantle the lock will I find an FS key number written on it somewhere?

Does an FS series key fit the boot? The number, but not the series, will be on the lock barrel. Beaulieu Autojumble is on the 18/19th May, very likely you will find one there, and not that far from Fareham!

Thanks Richard, just being lazy and thought I would ask before dismantling. The FS ignition key fits but does not turn. Was the igntion and door key not the same as the boot key originally then?

The saloon is one key fits all, not sure about Travellers or vans

Yes, all the keys would have been the same originally.

The locks on the boot often seize up as there is only a tiny little bar that moves to lock it, once seized the pin that moves it breaks so I would try and get some plus gas or similar in before you try and dismantle it.

The key number will be written on the square shaft. Only visible once removed.

You'll only have a 3 digit number, but as you've determined it's in the FS series, it'll be that FS number.

You may well find that the number on the shaft is the same as the number on your key, in which case, it's just seized!

The number on the shaft is often hard to read, or even find, i've found scraping over it with a stanley blade helps make it more legible.

If it is seized, try spraying some plus gas into the keyhole. I've got to try the same with a handle i've just found!

The ignition key may not necessarily be the same number as the boot. It may have been changed over the years. I have 4 keys for my Traveller, ignition, driver's and passenger doors and boot. All different!

If you are coming to the International Rally in June several of the traders bring a board with keys on you may find one that fits?

All the key series, MRN, FA, FP, FS etc have different numbers eg MRN = 1 - 500, FA = 501 - 800 etc
