Post by stanley0070 »

Hi there,
When fitting a new tank does it need a large gasket or does it fit in the big hole metal to metal
Thanks Brian

Originally there was a gasket, I couldn't source one when I replaced the tank in our '61 sedan so I used black caulking.
Another option is to use dum-dum.

As Katy says, most usually use some form of sealant - silicone works OK - so that water cannot get into the lower boot compartment :-) all the cars I have had have had some sort of black goo in there.

If you can't get to a motor spares for dum dum or a similar product you could use Plumbers Mate as a non setting sealant. Available from B+Q or other DIY stores.

I used this stuff, waterproof and doesn't harden. Used it for the gearbox floor cover as well.
