Check the linkage on the carb where the choke pulls the jet down to richen the mixture. Is this operating and, more importantly, releasing? If not a rich mixture would allow it to start when cool but would cause rough running when warmed up.

^^^^^ Good idea - could well be choke sticking ON.

Start with adjustments, test and the cheap parts first for sure.
I had the same symptoms for a couple of months and eventually solved with a new coil.

I had a 24volt Hotchkiss Willys Jeep a few years back, exactly the same symptoms as your Minor and Im afraid it WAS the coil !!!

Could it be the idle speed set too low? When the choke is out it will open the throttle a bit, choke goes in and it goes to an unsustainably low level

Sounds like it - lift the idle and then set the mixture. But the vacuum MUST be connected to the dizzy.
