Hi All
I'm Dave and Marty's new owner, also a new member, I've had the car for about a month now and have been doing some "temporary" cosmetic repairs and polishing.
There was some discussion on the original for sale post re cylinder head/engine block .The 1st job i did was renew the rocker box gasket and discovered that indeed a 12g940 head was fitted.
Also on cleaning the engine i discovered the engine no started with 12CE my limited knowledge indicates this to be a midget 1275 block.
The car does appear to run well and I intend to enjoy it more or less as it is until winter! Then one new wing and door bottom are required.(Hopefully)
The only thing I will look into is fitting a servo as although disc brakes are on the front braking is not brilliant!

Nice looking car - and great background to your pictures! Let's see some pictures of the engine and we'll tell you what's in there. Obviously if it is a 1275 you need to make sure DVLA and your Insurers know about that.. Adding a servo won't make the brakes any 'better' - but may reduce the pedal load for you. It's not an inexpensive business - you may well get used to the higher load in time. As long as the brakes can lock all 4 wheels on a dry road at 30 mph - they're working as well as you can hope for! Tyre to road adhesion is always the limiting braking factor with standard Minor wheels and tyres.......

Welcome to the forum, as BMC says a servo will not improve stopping. New discs and pads would be money better spent if they are worn at all, it transformed the brakes on my MG.

Hi All
Thanks for the advice on my brakes,I will check the basics before committing to the expense and trouble of fitting a servo!
As requested I have posted (hopefully) some pictures of the engine bay.As I said the cylinder head is a 12G940 and the engine no starts with 12CE. HS4 carb? There are no "tappet" covers on the manifold side of engine .Trust that one of you experts will be able to say whether or not it is a 1275 block,
Thanks in advance
Regards Dave
