headlight chrome rim

hi , would like to replace one or both of my minors 1967 1000 chrome headlight rims but cant work out how to remove them , thought i best ask for some help first just incase i damaged anything trying to take it off , basically i thought you took a screw on the bottom of the rim out then twisted the rim off , problem is theres no screws and empty holes in the bottom of the rims and a rivit looking thing on the top of the rim ?? try prizing it off i just dont know what to do now, any help would be great[frame][/frame]

If there is no screw in bottom of bezel and no hole it may be that someone has fitted MGB bezels and headlamp pots and the bezel should just pull off from the bottom and unhook from the top. ( i think thats the correct way around )

Remove the sidelight/indicator lens, it makes it easier to replace the headlight rim screw

Agree with Ian, MGB bezels, use a plastic glue/grout spreader or something similar to lever off at the bottom while pushing down on the top.

Looking back at original post he says that there are holes at the bottom and no screws so as Beero says push down on the top and pull off from the bottom. The rivet thing could be just a pressing in the rim , the original rims had a locating bracket riveted on, to help position the rim correctly on the headlamp bowl, the later ones have to be guessed at the correct position and when the screw is nowhere near the clip taken off and repositioned again

well i got the old chrome rim off and yes it was just a round pressing on the top not a rivit ,bought a morris minor replacement rim and spent the last 2 hours trying to get the new one on with no luck , its only on at the top , hooked the top on first then pushed down thats basically sides and bottom of the rim sticking out , i tried turning it around and other ways twisted this way that way and that was just me !! , did not want to try and prize it on with a screwdriver just incase i damaged the chrome rim or anything else , i think i need a curved tool of some kind to get it over the rest of the inner metal framework and dont think a screwdriver will do as it looks wrong shape tool to try and use ?? was it a repro part
i had toble with one on my vans yeas ago which was repro part
it should slip over quite easily
try a bit of grease on the back

yes a repro minor part ,did try some washing up liquid but never helped ,the curved edge that you clip on has a slight differance to the original so maybe it was always going to be a struggle to get it on , so i may have to buy an original rim from some where now

On a slightly related subject. I need to replace my headlamp bowls and wondered what people felt about the plastic replacements? Also, some of the original adjuster screws are broken/rusted inside the wing. Can I fit the new plastic bowls without having to remove the remnants of these screws? I've tried almost everything to remove them.

I would avoid plastic bowls, Ive found them to be a pain to fit the headlight rims to, even an old rim. My friend brought his traveller down the other day to see if I could fit headlight peaks on as he had spent a few hours with not joy. I did manage to get it to fit on with the plastic bowls but ended up having to put a screwdriver in at the 6 o'clock position and force it down, was crapping myself in case it slipped and it wrecked paintwork......
