......Friends, it seems to me that what's now in very short supply are the 'rolling restoration' Travellers you could pick up for between £800 and £1500 which were driveable and had three or four more years left in the wood so you could get saving. Looks like you now have a choice between a restored one, priced appropriately, or a basket case which will need two grand spending on it before you can put it on the road. Is this about the size of it, or have I missed something?

You have it in a nutshell, I'm afraid. Fair daily runners are not as plentiful as in times of yore.

Travellers have risen in value quite nicely recently... People have realised how jolly useful they are!

It;s not just Travellers that are pricey.

Vans, pickups, travellers and convertibles have all hit a preimum, some prices is and are madness but ...........

I'm not sure people realise how low prices still are in comparison to other marques. I've just bought a Traveller from the for sale section here and looking at prices of cars and the price of parts etc it's a pleasant surprise in comparison to the VW world which I'm more used to.

Also, from what I've seen, the quality and availability of panels is much better in comparison. Try finding a decent heater channel for a 50s Beetle ... NOS are hen's teeth, pattern parts are junk. A company has just started manufacturing some good quality repros at £300 a side. times that by two and add in the cost of their quality floor pans at another £300 a side and that's £1200 before you've even looked at any other part of the car.

Indeed, we all have a moan from time to time on here about the quality and availablity of new parts, but we are amazingly well catered for with very little thats unobtainable. A fact which shows the popularity of the Minor. I've no real experience of the VW scene but with my latest project, I'm looking at making some trim strips in wood and then using them as patterns to have some cast etc. Makes a Minor look very sensible!
