Traveller rear doors

Hi!

I've stripped and sanded Hetty's rear doors, but the right hand door is showing signs of rot around the handle area. The worst area is hidden by the panel when it's screwed on, and there's a small area showing on the front of the door right next to the handle. (I can't show pictures as I use an iPad and it won't let me upload from there! )

I've had a good look and poke round, and taken some advice, and a permanent repair doesn't seem possible. Both rear doors are a bit tired looking though the left hand door is rot free and looks better now it's been sanded. I've done a basic repair on the RH side that won't be visible, but the door/s will need replacing at some point.

I don't really want to buy brand new doors as the rest of the wood has a nice patina and I think they'd stick out like a sore thumb?

Do secondhand rear doors come up very often?

Thanks!

Emma

Hi Emma,

Rear doors come up occasionally on fleabay. I think there are a couple on at the moment. To my mind you take a bit of a chance on the quality, but as they say, you pays your money and take the risk. If nothing else you should have some decent old timber to repair your own doors.
I hope it goes well for you.

All the best,

Phil.

As the door and glass/panel is all bolt/screw on you could always just varnish up your old doors and keep an eye out for better replacements - they do come up for sale from time to time I even broke up a couple of doors that seemed to be in my way in the garage all the time not so long ago....

Dont let the doors keep you from getting it out on the road again :D
