We have had a tatty Minor sat at work in the compound for a good time now waiting for work to be done to get it throug an mot so the owner can swap the licence Plates off of it to another vehicle i have been told. The reg is 97TTA, iv been told this is a special reg with value does anyone have any idea why this is?

Most likely because it's 2 numbers and 3 letters. Most of that age had 3 numbers and 3 letters, but even those are considered valuable by some.

A lot depends on who told you it's valuable too, some people think that just because it doesn't have a prefix or suffix (A--- --- or --- ---A for example) make it special. They're only really valuable to the right person, if the 3 letters happen to be their initials!

The reg isn't worth anything if the car doesn't have a valid MOT, and even then, it might not be a transferable reg on there now.

No mention of Cowley change points by body number.

Up to 1962, Cowley had its own numbering system.

Am I the only one to have realised this?

When the combinations of letters before numbers ran out, the licensing authority would issue registration numbers with the numbers before letters, so Devon must've ran out of 'AAA111' combo plates at some point!

Does the owner have a 'value' in mind for the reg number? And - if the car is pre 1960 - does he realise it doesn't need an MOT?? It's not recorded with DVLA -at least, not as a 'Morris'.......

Western National

Although pre 1960 cars do not need an MOT, to take a reg number from a vehicle , the donor vehicle must have a valid MOT, irrespective of age. This stops people taking plates off Barn finds without doing any work to them, so the car would have to be MOT'd.
