Welcome!
Patience is a great virtue when finding a good Minor, take someone knowledgeable along and look at several.
Don't get smitten with shiny paint, look underneath the car and the carpets too!

Thanks for the welcome guys. Yeah.. I know what you mean regarding shiny paint etc... one Im due to have a look at on Saturday looks great.. has had a bit of welding done to it as there was excessive corrosion on 4 areas pointed out on the original MOT advisory.. which slightly worries me.
Was going to jump pretty quick when I saw a split screen up for sale in Sussex (dealership) which I saw on CarandClassic, which Im actually a bit gutted about as it was sold pretty quick (someone on this board???)
I thought about going to a dealer and buying a 'reputable' ready restored but its more money than I want to spend on a second (hobby car).
Ive got about 2 grand to play with for the purchase and near the same for anything that needs doing... (dealership would have been a lot more).. so many Ive seen on Ebay that require an 'easy restoration' which I find hard to believe unless youve already restored it.
Well.. once I start typing I cant stop

The condition of the engine bay is a fair indication of how well a car has been looked after. Paintwork OK, interior OK, under bonnet - disaster area

Hi Kentish Traveller!
I'm in Folkestone and acquired my first Traveller a few weeks ago after searching for 8 months. I was being very fussy about colour etc which is why it took me so long I think, but I ended up buying exactly what I said I wouldn't - a poor old girl that needed a lot of work!
She's progressing nicely and is due for her respray next week so I hope to have some pics up soon.
I suppose all I would say from my experience is that I was in an almost identical situation to you budget-wise, and so far it looks like it will work out cheaper or about the same for me to buy Hetty and fix her up that it would have been to buy her all done. The difference is I really feel like I know her inside out because I've seen her stripped to pieces, and I am really enjoying doing some of the work myself (something I was adamant I wouldn't do!).
I have had so much support and advice from the forum, and some of the members are incredibly generous. I'm so glad I joined while I was searching and not after I had purchased!
Good luck with your search, I can't wait to see what you buy
Emma

There's normally a few cars for sale at the National rally. You can walk around and take a damn good look at members cars not for sale (many hundreds), then look at the ones that are for sale.
