Outer sill

Does anyone have any idea how the outer sill (that funny looking thing) fits to the boxing plate?

I have been looking in every book I can think of but none of them shows a good view of exactly how they fit together. I could do with a view of these two panels from the end. A sketch would do.

Can you identify the parts that you are talking about on this diagram?

The body panels page has a diagram of the sill section.
58 is not connected to 62 at all.
Parts 1, 3, 50, 58 and 23 are all welded together.
Part 59 sits on top of them and self-tapping screws hold it to 3.
Parts 23, 59 and 62 are held together by nuts and bolts and washers.
There are five of them and you can see the holes where they go in the diagram. 62 has slots where the bolts go.

I am very sorry, I have given you the wrong parts. They should be 23 and 58.

The little SILL SECTION diagram shows the correct arrangement.
The large exploded diagram is misleading since it shows 58 on the outside of 23. Part 58 should be on the inside relative to 23.
In practice, as is shown from the SILL SECTION diagram, Parts 23 and 58 do not actually touch.
Is this any help?

I am sorry if am being stupid, but if parts 23 and 58 do not touch, how are they to be welded together?
Apart from this, your help has been most informative.

I am sorry if I have confused you.
58 is welded to 3 (along the top) and 50 (along the bottom).
23 is welded to 50 along its length.
27 is bolted to 23 (with 59 between them).
So 58 and 23 don't actually touch but 58 is welded to 50 which is welded to 23.
Just out of interest are you making a vehicle up from scratch or are both sills completely missing from one that you are restoring?

Thank you again for your help. No, I am not building one from scatch, but the boxing plate was pretty corroded and the outer sill was virtually non existent. But at least I now have a good idea as to what I am doing. That site seems to be quite good.
Thanks again
