Starting Handle/Wheelbrace

Just trying to help out a transatlantic member who is looking for a crankhandle for his 1958 Minor. I have a spare, and I'm assuming that the one in the picture is the correct one? Did they vary much in design at all? If that IS the correct one, then what is the wee wheelbrace without the starter pin for? Mini?
Any information from you experts would be greatly appreciated. Postage will be considerable I suspect, and I don't want to send him the wrong thing![frame]Image[/frame]

I have a starting handle like you show, it fits our '61 Morris 1000, but the wheel brace end doesn't fit the wheel nuts. IIRC it's too small.

I wonder if, perhaps, your nuts are bigger then mine, then? ( Ok! Keep your smut to yourself!) I've got some brand new wheelnuts from Bull Motif and they seem to fit into both wheelbraces just fine. Could you have a wheelbrace from something else, perchance?

In my experience the brace was no good for undoing wheel nuts, it just bent

I always carry a socket set to undo my wheels

The top one is just a wheelbrace. The lower one is a 948cc starting handle and wheelbrace combined so should be ok for a 58.

The proper starting handle is black with a rotating handle. Don't know when it changed.
Wheel nut size is 3/8 Whit. As above I always use a socket and ratchet spanner, not the bit of bent rod.

The OP was asking which would be ok for use as a starting handle to send to a member abroad. I don't think they're bothered about the wheelbrace bit.

The 'proper' starting handle for a Morris Minor A series is the one shown in the first post - painted bright red. It supposedly doubles as a wheel nut brace - but it is useless for that purpose - so the wheel brace also shown is essential - provided it fits the nuts of course....

I would like to thank Coalmossian for all the trouble he went to here to get me the right handle, this one is correct and will be repainted, it will make a great "extra" to show with the car (if I ever finish it, it may take a year or more). You truly have made a friend "across the pond". I would like to put the project on here but am confused as where to start and the last time I tried I couldn't down load pictures, I will try again, thanks once more my friend.

Take a look at this

We have a Restoration section if you would like to start a thread on your car.
