My Morris is going well, passed the mot for the second time with no advisories yesterday, but am doing 'better' paint repairs now the summer has come - and my mind has turned to the rear wing beading / join with body. The original job was done by my friend, who made it solid but a little messy - and so I want to reattach the wings. So, my question is... how?

I intend to undo bolts and pull the wing out a cm or two to allow me to more neatly flatten the rear of the car body and repaint, same with the actual wing - THEN push the wing back on... but what colour beading is CORRECT for a red 71 Morris? Black or red?

Secondly, do you use sealant as well between the beading /car / wing?

I wouldn't use sealant, the beading should do. The last thing you want is trapped moisture between the wing and the body.

The nearest to red you would get is maroon b wing beading, so it may look better with black. I guess its down to your personal choice!

If you want red it's easy to do yourself. All you Need is 5mm tubing or cable wrapped with red leatherette and run it through a sewing machine or even glue it. Here's a photo of the homemade piping on my MG TD which is a bit thicker and is actually covered Moggy piping (~7mm).

the beading will not prevent water getting into the join,it dosent seal underneath,it stops entry ,maybe ,from the top, sealant in the joint is essential in my view ,unless you want to remake the rusted out flange in a few years time/.

If you seal it from the top, there is still the opportunity for water to be thrown up from inside the arch that way. Trust me I know, one of my Minors has filled wings
Besides, the Minor has lasted as long as it has with just the piping - if the preparation is there it should last more than a few years! Perfectly fine to use as is.

New beading appears softer than the old stuff one might take off when the wing comes off.

The secret of fitting the wing piping is to cut litle "^'s" in the wide strip. Not far enough up to the piping to show from the outside but it does help when fitting round the curves of the wing.
