Hi,
I have just joined the forum, my 11 year old son has asked for a car for myself and him to restore for his birthday and we figured something which keeps him from becomming adicted to a computer is no bad idea, firstly I am extending the garage to make room, by knocking 2 buildings into one, we will then be on the lookout for a minor.
I have restored many cars over the years and still have an lotus elan, Tr7V8 and landrover series 2, body work being my favourite. We chose a minor becase he may have a chace of insuring it when 18 and they are still relatively affordable( look at the prices of anglias or mk 1 escorts).
So far I have come to the conclusion we want a complete car that is mechanicaly not to bad but has underbody rust problems, perhaps a recent mot failure.

Any ideas what this should cost or further advice?

Kevin.

Hello and welcome!

Firstly no better car to pick than a minor! You should be able to pick up a project car for around the £300 -£500 mark, sometimes there are even cars offered for free on this site if someone will promise to repair/restore it so do keep an eye out. Its worth adding your location to your profile so folk know were abouts in the country you are.

Thanks for the replies, A good point about location, We live in Chelmsford Essex.

When we get a vehicle and get started we will post a blog somewhere ( assume there is a restoration section on this site somewhere?)

I've added a pic of the Land rover which was my latest resto, (don't worry we won't leave the dents on a minor!)[frame]Image[/frame]

It has a mildly warmed over 2.25 petrol running on LPG

(9:1 Compression ratio, cleaned out ports, unleaded valve seats, 1.75" su, free flowing exhaust and distributor-less mapped ignition)

Well the garage is built, yesterday I bought one, today after had arranged the trailer etc they reneaged on the deal , marvelous.

To re cap we are looking for a late saloon as along term restoration project, idealy somewhere in the south east max budget around £400 does anyone have anything?

There is a white one on ebay in stevenage I am considering any thoughts are welcome.
