Hi everybody.

I am quite good with 2 door prices - but how much are late four door cars going for in generally good condition, ie sort of top of condition 2?

Mathew I sold mine for £650 it was in great condition and had new sills

Not a general price though is it Lee? Even two doors are starting to fetch 'silly' sums at times - even in the two years I have been a Minor fan they have gone up. But where do four doors sit generally...

Four doors seem to fetch the least amount of money out off all the models, they are very practical other then not huge amounts of leg room and small door opening. Also i think its all on looks as 2 doors do look smarter, stronger shell and also can be made into convertibles if wanted. id say condition 1 £3000 condition 2 £2000 and condition 3 between £500 and £1000

From my experience they are roughly the same. Two doors may be more desirable to some, personally I prefer the look of the four doors. The rear doors are also easier to replace when they rot compared to the bottom of the rear quarter panel.

I have always found the four door Minors the most practical of the saloons. beware of those trying to drive the value of four door cars down because they want their front doors for vans and pick-ups...

There is a beautifully restored 4 door on ebay with a buy it now price of $24,800.00 (£16379.36) it is ebay item# 190815946964 if you want to look it up..(I wish I knew how to create a link that would go directly to it, but am not just real computer savvy). It has loads of pictures and is gorgeous...

The current bid is $7,600.00 (£5019.48) and the reserve hasn't yet been met......

I don't know if this is a typical price or not..

Id try get an earlier Morris Minor than a late model. The late models were built when the British motor industry was at its worse, and they cut back on steel etc. (Earlier minors are built better).
I would be biased and look at a series 2, (they look better with the split screen and smaller rear window) however, the first morris 1000s would be a better everyday car, as they have the better engine.

Well, I'd agree to disagree on that one. I don't think there is any significant difference in looks between the Minor 1000 and the Series 2. The larger rear screen improves rear visibility and the front screen is easier to fit, and less prone to leak. The engine in the later Minor 1000 I would also argue is the best (why else would they fit it ). My 950 I know struggles to keep at anything above 60 for any length of time, in my short experience of the 1100 the torque is noticeably different.
I would go for whatever one meets your budget and is solid, well priced etc. Unfortunately, they are prone to rot whatever their vintage, and in my opinion getting the most 'sound' is of paramount importance..

I agree with Chesney, I didn't look at the model, I looked at the condition. 1098cc engines are the best engine for daily use. Plus, series 2's have had longer time to rot, and there is not as many of them about. Late 1000's however are still reasonably plentiful and parts are generally easier to get hold of (there are some rot-boxes though....). That said, The Split screens do look more 'Classic' and I wouldn't mind one, but i'll stick to my '61 with 1098cc engine.
Back to four doors....

I was talking to a guy who has been resorting Minors for years and he said avoid the four doors due to lack of structure in the rear. He said he often has to deal with distortion, poor fitting back doors etc when the rot has affected the structure. Is this true?

The four doors I've had have seem pretty solid with the door fit etc. Its the same sill structure and its probably stronger around the back end with the solid box section running over the front of the back wing. They certainly weigh a bit more than two door cars. Valuewise I wouldn't put a premium on either model. they both have there merits and are just as desirable as each other. some may wnat a 4dr, others a 2dr but the rear thing that affects price is condition rather than body style, or age come to that.
4 drs are rather more unusual than 2drs beign a more expensive car when new, but again it doesn't make much difference now.
