SERIES II MATCHING INSTRUMENTS

Hi Everyone. I have an early 1954 Series II [gold dash] and I have a problem with the gauges. My fuel and speedo are both Smiths MA gauges and are cream with brown letters/numbers, correct for the period. But my oil gauge is cream with black numbers and no Smiths MA logo. Is this correct? Would Morris fit what seems to be odd gauges? There are 2 oil gauges on Ebay at the moment, both are cream/black like mine. Are there Series II owners out there that can confirm what is the correct period gauge? The picture is of my oil gauge.[frame]Image[/frame]

I am SO disappointed! When I joined the club last year I was hoping that the Messageboard would be an ideal opportunity for me to put questions to the owners of Morris Minors that were more experienced than me and had "been there, done that" before and would be able to help me in my quest to detail my Morris. I recently had a problem with identifying the correct fuel/speedo/oil gauges and had asked if any SII owns could look at their oil pressure gauges and confirm if mine was correct, I have had one response but no intelligent reply. I could have got more interest posting on a Ford website! [probably an intelligent answer as well!!]. Is it that hard to look at your oil gauge and then reply "Yup i's the same as mine" or " Mine is different" Come on Morris Minor Owners Club, HELP A FELLOW OWNER!!!

Ive just been out and looked at the gauges on my 1950 lowlight, it has brown markings on the speedo, fuel gauge and the dashboard clock which I havent fitted yet and has a black oil gauge without any other markings. I also looked at my box of spare bits and a further 2 oil gauges are black, I dont know what year the spare gauges are from and had never noticed this very slight colour difference before and had to shine the torch on it to see!

It does say in Ray Newells book, original Morris Minor ( well worth getting if you dont already have it) that the gauges had brown lettering but does not mention the oil gauge on its own.

Tony - it may well be that people on this board haven't replied to your request because they don't own a Ser II Morris Minor, and even fewer an MM Lowlight. I have 5 Morris Minors - none of them earlier than 1961 so I for one wouldn't be able to tell you what colour the original dials should be.
